The Clarion Trio was formed in 2006 to explore the repertoire for
clarinet, viola and piano. Matthew Billing is Section Leader Clarinet of
National Symphony Orchestra Ireland, He has also played Principal
Clarinet with the Ulster Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and
performed with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish
Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia. Francis Harte is
Sub-Principal Viola of National Symphony Orchestra Ireland who has
worked with all the major London orchestras, performing in the concert
halls of Europe, Japan and the USA. As a pianist, Fergal Caulfield works
regularly with National Symphony Orchestra Ireland. He has performed
as guest soloist with leading Irish ensembles in broadcasts, recordings
and concerts at home and abroad.
Fergal holds a B.A. and a research Ph.D. in Musicology from Trinity
College, Dublin.
